Counting with Jellyfish

Practice counting with your child with a cardboard jellyfish! This activity aims to help your child recognize numbers and trains their fine motor skills using pipe cleaners and pony beads!

MATERIALS:

  • Pipe cleaners
  • Pony beads
  • Markers
  • Cardboard
  • Tape/Hole punch

INSTRUCTIONS

Cut out a semi circle from cardboard and draw a face for the jellyfish

Write numbers at the bottom of the jellyfish’s face

Secure 1 pipe cleaner to each number, forming the jellyfish tentacles (either by taping it on the cardboard or punching holes next to the numbers and fastening the pipe cleaner to the holes)

Ask your child to thread breads onto the pipe cleaners according to the numbers labelled

TIPS
  • While drawing the jellyfish head, let the child be creative with decorations!
  • Let your child practice color recognition by asking them to match the colored beads according to the color of the pipe cleaner as well.
