Incorporate your child’s favorite snacks in this counting activity. “Counting Jar” not only practices one’s counting skills, it also engages your child in imaginative play. Roleplaying or playing pretend helps nurture imagination, creativity, language, and socio-emotional skills.

MATERIALS:

  • Paper
  • Scissors
  • Markers
  • Tape/Glue

INSTRUCTIONS

Make multiple cut-outs of your child’s favorite snacks

Draw a jar on a piece of paper
3
Get your child to paste the snacks onto the counting jar
4
Count the number of snacks in the jar with your child!

TIPS
  • Reinforce the cardinality principle of counting by asking him/her for the total number of snacks in the jar after counting together.
