#LearningByDearest
This activity is a simple but effective way to practice a few early numeracy concepts. A pen and paper is all you need to support your child’s counting and number recognition skills!
LEARNING GOALS:
- Number recognition
- Counting
AGE: 2 – 3 Years Old
TIME: 10 Mins
CATEGORY: Numeracy
MATERIALS:
- Paper
- Marker
INSTRUCTIONS
1
Trace both your child’s hands (and their feet is you wish) on a piece of paper.
2
Count out loud and number each traced finger with your child while you do so.
3
Practice counting! Have your child color in each finger of their traced hand as they learn what number comes next.
!
TIPS- If your child is old enough, ask them to trace their own hands. The act of tracing will strengthen their pincer grip (used to hold a pencil or pen) and hand-eye coordination.
- You can also label each hand left or right to begin helping your child to distinguish between the two directions.
